I think I found out what the "rushing" noise was, it sounds like it is the air rushing through the hose to the vacuum gauge. When I pull it off and plug the port, the sound all but goes away.
Still confused about the idle mixture screws...

You shouldn't hear any "air rushing" with your vacuum gauge connected, unless the hose or the gauge itself is leaking.

If your idle mixture screws are all the way seated and it idles, or doesn't respond at all to movement of the screws, your throttle plate is open too far and it's idling on the transfer slots instead of the idle orifices.

I did a little more checking and tracked down what I was hearing. I am reading the vacuum off an extra port on the PCV valve, it is just the air rushing through that hose and being "transmitted" back to the gauge hose. So No problem there. The mixture screws do make a differance as I adjust them, the best reading I get fluctuates around 15.5 to 17 or so. I will need to get it out around town and on the road to see how it does or if it has any bogs or stumbles.
Thanks again...
Scott
