this should have nothing to do with the work i just did on the tranny, but its just weird that it happened as soon as i was done. my tranny was leaking in a few places. i checked it out and ended up replacing the pan gasket, dipstick tube o-ring, and had to replace the tailshaft housing(cracked at speedo cable connection). more work than i expected, but it should be sealed up now. and as soon as i was done with all this, i took the car out for a run...after warmup, idle is too low and the car stumbles a little at part-throttle. sounds like it needs some carb tuning, just wondering if anybody has another idea that could be linked to the tranny, its messing with my mind.

zach just a thought, is the vac hose from the carb to the tranny all in good shape, no cracks, tight bends or kinks? Ends in good shape, not losing vacuum there are you?

Cool

The engine is jealous, you caressed the trans, but, haven't touched the engine, or the car wants more of your touch..........

Could it be the choke has finally opened up fully and the fast idle screw is now not on the fast idle cam? Or fast idle solenoid became unstuck from its extended position?

Maybe others here will give some more suggestions, click gave a very good one.

vacuum connection looks good at the intake, i'm banking on the connection being loose at the tranny though. that would be the most logical answer since i was working right around there. would a disconnected vacuum hose at the tranny cause those symptoms? i'll let you know what i find once i get under the car, if not that, its on to the carb.

Yes a loose vacuum line will cause the problem you are having. I would bet anything that is your problem. Make sure there are no holes in the line if they are still connected at both ends.

i thought for sure it would be the vacuum line connection. but now i think everett may have had the right answer, the engine was jealous of the tranny.
i checked the tranny connection, on there tight and good. so i started the car up, felt ok until it warmed up and the choke kicked down again. drove it around the corner, almost dying on me. so i messed with the idle mixture screws, a little richer seemed to help, then it ran horribly again. so i put everything back to its original position, took it for a drive, and somewhere along there it started to run perfect again. only thing i can think of is a piece of debris or rust in the carb. so its running fine for now...
