Question

I need help! My 93 TA is idling rough(like it has a big cam)and backfires when i let of the gas to shift. there are no codes, I can't seem to find a vaccum leak( but I may have overlooked it). I have replaced the plugs, wires, coil, distributor, and fuel injectors. Any ideas?

Is it a tpi motor? A coworker had the same trouble with his tpi 350 85 vette...it had a vac leak from a bad runner gasket on his tpi...and it was a real PITA to change the the runner gaskets.

I know this sounds like a repeat.but your new to the site. Looks like you,ve spent enough money guessing.Take it to a good dealer or garage for a complete fuel & EEC (electronic engine controls) Diag.

this may be in the wrong direction, but check for an exhaust leak. the same symptoms happen when i unplug my headers because of the pressure change in the exhaust when i let off of the gas and shift. There is not enough pressure in the system some pressure is needed if you run at low rpms, and are not just shooting down a quarter mile. that is why most street cars run better with the mufflers on the car. you probably have a bad exhaust doughnut or the pipe has come loose at the manifold. good luck.
