i am having trouble finding the correct timming on my 68 camaro, it has the origenal 327/275hp cid engine, and powerglide tranny, i was also told that i could hook up a vaccum gage and set the timing to the highest vaccum pressure. but that sets it to about 14 atdc...none of the stickers are on the car, so im prety lost as to what to set the timing to, and help is appreciated.

My Chiltons manual says 4degrees BTDC for your engine. If your engine has a few miles you might want to run it a few degrees advanced from there to compensate for timing chain stretch anyway.I usually tweak mine in by the way it runs, and use the manual just as a starting point. If you have had your disributor re-curved for example,it might run better at a setting different then what the manual says.

Set it at 10 btdc, that is the most popular setting. Factory recommendations are way off most of the time performance wise

Advance the timing as far as you can go, I set mine untill it will not crank over smoothly when it is hot, This is about the same spot where i don't have any detonation.

I have great results between 10 - 12 degrees
advance (set without vacuum advance hooked up).
