I have a 1980 Camro Z28 that I am trying to fix up. Whenever I turn the car on, it makes a loud screeching noise for about 5-10 seconds. I think it may be the alternator belt, but I have not been able to fix it yet. Any help would be greatky appreciated.

Sounds like a belt to me too. Make sure they have the proper tension. The screeching is the belt slipping from being too loose. Kinda like screeching tires!

If that isn't it, I'd check out the water pump and air-co compressor.
