About 200 miles ago I had installed a new Richmond 3.73 gears and Caltracs. I noticed a noise coming from the back. It only occurs when I turn, either left or right. it sounds like a "thud-ding sound". I can't really explain the sounds any better. It definately coming from the rear of the vehicle. Could this be from the limited slip on the posi? or the Caltracs?

Thanks in advance.

Drive in a circle around a friend.
May help with noise location - rear end - brakes - traction control.

mikestr,

Could be that you need more GM additive to the posi. If they don't slip a little they can make a terrible noise when you turn. Mine did and then I put more additive in and the noise went away.

If you didn't add any, I would say add 2 small bottles. You add it right were you added the gear lube.

Yeah, it's just an additive for gear lube. Comes in small (4.oz???) bottles.

Get it at the GM parts counter.

If you did not use the additive, that is the cause of the clunking. Drive around in a circle or on a freeway off ramp and hear it clunk, clunk, clunk...sort of a "snapping" sound.

Add one bottle, drive around in circles and check for clunking. If you need 2 bottles (I do frequently) add another. That should do it.

It's definately sounds like a clunking sound, it is certainly evident when, making left/right turns. Is it possible that the guy that did my rear end not put any at all??
Just wondering how much I can add without going over a certain limit.

Thanks
