Just put a B&M quicksilver shifter in the car and it has the 1-2-3-D-R-P shift pattern but when i put it down in 1 it will not hold it, it shifts to 2. but it will hold 2 and 3 wihthout upshifting itself...what could be causing this. shift cable? i dont' see how.

What year car and tranny? Did it do this before the shifter install? I have had 2 chevy trucks ('92 and '96) Both would not stay in first unless you put a load on the engine or put your foot to the floor. I was told it did this by design.

I have a 700r4 out of an '86 iroc in my '69 and it holds 1st fine. It was rebuilt with internal parts from a newer version of the trans but I don't feel that should make a diff...

I believe Dennis is right, many of the stock trannies automatically upshift in first even if you don't shift. I BELIEVE that a Transgo reprogramming kit will eliminate this but I'm not sure.

I don't know what year it is. but will try to find out. I do know that it doesn't hold first even if you floor it. maybe that kit is the key, i also need to put in an electronic lockup switch. it doesn't have one.
