was driving down the road today when i noticed all the sudden a huge thick cloud of white smoke billowing from the back of my car while going down the road..could smell burning oil also, then in about 10 secs it cleared up and didnt' happen again....what the heck is going on?

Check for oil leaks on the engine and tranny. Also check the pcv valve to see if its working right.

If you have an auto trans, it could be trans fluid foaming and hitting the exhaust pipe.
If you stop right away when it's doing it, the car may burst into flames due to the reduction of air flowing past.
Make sure your trans fluid is fresh, and not overfilled, check it HOT and running, do not overfill.
