How do I unhook the speedo cable from the gauge? I tore the gauges down to just the white box and the metal speedo thing where it spins. How do I unhook it? Also how do I get to the part where it hooks to the trans? Do I have to drop the trans?

EKG,

On the back of the speed-o there is a little flat spring thing that you just pull down and the cable just slides off.

The cable on the trans will come off using a pair of pliers. If you want the plug with the gear out and you are talking about the 84 Camaro in your siginature, there is a 10 mm bolt, and hold down clamp, remove this then grab the plug behind the threads, and gently rotate it until it comes out.

Can I get to the trans without dropping it? Can I remove one of the panels in the car?

There is not a panel to remove, but you should be able to get to it from the under side of the car (be sure to use safety stand)you will need to work around the rear cross member but should not need to remove it.
