Hi, I've got a 1981 camaro with a 4.4 267 engine, and i am experiencing hesitation upon excelleration. When i disconect the egr valve, the hesitation disapears, but i'd prefer to have the egr hooked up and performing its job. Is hesitation a common problem with defective egr valves? Should i replace it altogether? If anyone can shed some light on this matter, or if you've had a similar experience, please let me know. thanks.

I have seen weak springs inside the EGR letting it open two early and causing a stubble or lag just off idle....If that is the case you will have to replace the EGR valve( they are fairly cheap) I would go back with an A/C delco one instead of an aftermarket one......

Does it do it when the motor is cold and the choke on?

re: 2 replies so far:
thanks for the advice to get a ac delco egr instead of an aftermarket. i will see if my mechanic can get one.
the hesitation only occurs during regular idle speed. when the choke is on and the engine is revving high, there is no hesitation. i realize that the egr doesn't start working until the choke eases off and normal idle speed begins. the egr is very rusty on the outside, and it wouldn't surprise me if the corrosion spread inside, or the springs inside are worn! Thanks for the advice guys, i'll try to get a new egr valve by ac delco. i will follow up after i get the work done.
