I had one go bad in my 93 TA. It had a poor idle, would not rev easily, and seemed low on power. However these symptoms do not pinpoint a bad opti. The one that acted like this was actually the second one I had in the car. The first (original) got moisture inside (don't ask) and rusted itself so bad that it would not turn easily. So, here I am heading out of town at 75 mph and the internals of the opti melt from the increased friction. The melting causes the timing wheel to turn and take the timing off by over 40 degrees. Needless to say the engine dies and will not restart. This one was a real fun one to diagnose, because as you know, you DON'T want to replace the optispark unless you absolutely know it's bad. I tried to go cheap and I bought a used one. That was the one that caused the motor to idle poorly, rev poorly, and just be low on power. I pulled that one, and replaced it with a brand new one. That one worked perfectly. The engine never ran better. Well, that's enough rambling from me. Why do you suspect your opti is bad?
