My engine is macking a bad knocking noise. At first it is a knock and later, as it warms up, it is more of a metal screech. It is not the pushrods or the rocker arms, and it sounds like it is coming from the bottom rear, near the oil pan, converter area. It is not the bolts that hold it on the flywheel either. What is it? This is in my 307, stock, auto trans
It could be a variety of items - connecting rod bearings worn, oil pickup hitting the pan, main rod bearings worn. Transmission cover plate hitting flywheel. Best to look underneath and listen with a stethoscope or the end of a screwdriver on the oil pan and listen but if it is that loud better start pulling the oil pan off and take a look at your bottomend.
