Question

Hi guys. I have a 327 68 camaro that has a leakin head gasket. My question is, can I change one side or should I change both sides. Anything to watch out for?

I would for sure replace the gasket on the other side. Its probably not far behind.Gaskets dont last forever, some last longer than others, really dont know why?If the engine hasn't been run hot, warpage shouldn't be a problem.I would still check them for warpage.

I'd change both of them, and don't use the factory steel shim gaskets - they're designed to be used only on freshly-machined flat surfaces. I'd recommend a good pair of Fel-Pro composition gaskets; head gaskets are NOT a place to save money.

Watch out for water that mixed in with the oil...It can play hell on the rod bearings!

Question

If I pull off the heads, at TDC #1, can I
unloosen all the rocker arms and then retighten them, all, at the same spot or do
I have to individually set each one and why?

You'll have to re-adjust them. At TDC#1, set:

Intake - 1-2-5-7, Exhaust - 1-3-4-8

Turn it 360 degrees to TDC #6, and set:

Intake - 3-4-6-8, Exhaust - 2-5-6-7
