going to a show the other day i had to hit the highway. I ended up getting off at the 5th exit because i was being blown away by everyone. I figured id try it but it didnt work out. I have no idea what the gears are in the rear and if it revs that high at 55 mph what the **** happens after that speed in a 1/4 mile? blow the motor? Theres a rev limiter on the fire wall and in the car a autometer monster tach with a shift light .what would you guys do? It looks like for now its hometown and local cruising for me jim

That 383 of yours should rev to 5500 - 6000 rpm. If you have 27" tall tires your rear gears are 4.56's and if they are 25" tall they would be around 4.10's.

Using the examples of 25" and 27" tires your top speed at 6000rpm would be between 105 and 110mph. To flow with traffic at about 70 mph you will be seeing about 4000rpm. Sounds like it's time for a rear gear change, 3.42's to 3.73's would help on the hwy.

Sounds like a 4.10 or 4.11 with a 26 inch rear tires. Not perfect for long trips down the interstate a but blast in town. As far as the quarter, if you redline at 6000, your top speed would be 107 mph...which is 12's in the quarter (with enough getty-up and traction). If you wanted more top speed potential you'd need a higher redline (get out your wallet) or higher gear (lower numerically). Decisions, dicisions.
