How do you tell if an electric choke is opening too soon?

When you step on the go pedal and the engine dies WHEN the engine is cold.

Well, that's what I thought. I have a new Street Avenger from Holley, I started the car yesterday, temp outside about 57 degrees, and within a minute, the choke was open. The motor was no-where near the normal operating temp. When I tried to let it idle down, it killed, and when I tried to keep it going, it backfired thru the carb. I'm going to re-check the timing tonight, but thought it was odd that the electric choke was open so soon.

A combination of the choke heater spring adjustment and pull-off adjustment will affect cold to warm transition. Maybe you need a little more choke and a little more pull-off. Or perhaps leave the choke alone and decrease the amount of pull-off. The specs should be close to optimal. Just give them a review.
