tranny shifting question;
I HAVE A 68 SS/RS 396 th400/HURST PROMATIC 2 RATCHET SHIFTER /2500 stall/ shift kit HERE IS THE PROBLEM , WHILE IN DRIVE THE CAR WILL GO THROUGH ALL GEARS, NO PROBLEMS SHIFTS TIGHT EVERYTHING IS GREAT. IN RACE CONDITIONS OFF THE LINE IN 1ST CAR SHIFTS INTO 2ND BUT WHEN SHIFTED INTO 3RD, NOTHING UNTIL YOU LET OFF THE GAS FOR A QUICK SECOND THEN STAB THE PEDAL IT WILL SHIFT. wHAT THE &*@#??? ANY IDEAS?

shift points are controlled by the governor springs. B&M sells a spring kit. It's and easy install and works.

You should have an adjustable vacuum modulator on the transmission. Pull the vacuum hose off and insert a small screw driver. Back it off a couple of turns and see if that helps. Don't over do it though. If you can't find your desired shift within 2 - 3 turns, you need to reexamine your shift kit. What kind of shift kit do you have? B&M Transgo

BTW: The govenor will advance or delay all shifts which is probably not what you want since you said putt-putt is fine and 1-2 under WOT is OK as well.
