Someone PLEASE help me. I have snuck onto my husbands web site to see if anyone can assist me in finding my car's problem. I have a 69 SS with an intermittent problem. The other day while driving to work it died at a stop sign, almost like I turned the engine off. It wouldn't re-start for me even after several tries. I had a gentleman push it into a near-by parking lot. After work (8 hours later) I had my husband and his brother go to tow it. Imagine my surprise when it started. We hauled it home, backed it off the trailor, let it run for 15 minutes and it died again. He checked all the connections and they are OK. He checked the voltage to the coil and it is OK. Points look fine. Pulled the coil wire off to see if it had spark, turned it over and it started.... It has now been running for 1 hour and has not died. I have sneaked in for help because my husband is now stating he is going to make my car a flower planter for the front yard. He has his own 69 and can live without mine on the road Thanks in advance Pam

sounds like youve got more than one problem with husband and car. we all will need more info to trouble shoot the car as fro the husband refer to you mother or friends. back to the car why do you assume its electrical it could be a fuel filter or pump bad gas etc give us some more to go on try this next time it stalls immiadetly remove the air cleaner an with a mirror (compact will work) move your throttle linkage and see if you get a spray of fuel inside the carberator. good luck with both but keep the car plant the husband cant be worth much if he wont keep his wifes car runnin especialy when its a classic

I'd say replace the coil.

When the coil wire was removed for that test, it created more of a gap and made the spark temporarily hotter.

Coils will sometimes fail when hot, and then work ok after sitting.

I would not worry! Some days I want to push mine, all down hill, across into my neighbors driveway. And give it to him...

I say replace the coil and the husband. That man doesn't appreciate what he's got!

In order to clear my name, I put the HEI from MY 69 to get hers running, the coil was bad. When you take in that and the fact that I have also taken the carburetor and the tires from my car. Plus my new in the box 11" clutch for my car (she broke the pressure plate in hers trying to see just what a 383 would actually do). I feel justified in cursing at it when it needed to be brought home on a trailer. (for the second time) Thanks for coming to her support. Hopefully she will keep it on the road long enough to finish mine.

Good move Mr 69lemans in keeping the family harmony, maybe Mrs 69lemans needs to be a tad easier on the car so it doesn't break again too soon.

Ahhh, yes.

C'mon guys, think about the hidden meaning -- He keeps her car running, he sacrifices for her, and I'm sure she repays him well, meals, clean house, wash, etc., etc., etc.,......

I don't blame her for trying out the car,

Good troubleshooting, Mr 69lemans,

In reply to Everett.... Thanks for coming to my defense. Even though I'm no Martha Stewart, I don't mind turning a wrench when needed and definately like the ect., ect., ect. part. My car is once again on the road and running smoothly.. Thanks Guys. Mrs. 69Lemans
