can anyone tell me when the mechanical advance on a hei distribor should start coming & have full advance this a 76 model distributor in a 327 engine.

Hey Johnny. If I'm thinking correct. The advance should srart coming on at about 1100 rpm's and be at full advance at 2000 rpm's

Hey Joker, that's where you want it, but probably not where it is, if it's stock! more likely starts at 1500, and not all in until 4000!

Johhny,

Get a timing light with the adjustable advance on the light and disconnect your vacuum advance. You should be able to determine when the advanvce stops by slowly increasing the engine speed until the timing stops advancing. Once it stops check the timing advance with the light and subtract the initial timing from that to determine how much mechanical advance you have. If you want a curve just gather the timing measurements at 500 rpm intervals.
