Question

I have a '68 Camaro that I have replaced all the hideaway headlight components (headlight relay switch, bushings, vacuum hoses, vacuum hose filter, etc.). This system worked for a short time but now will not open or close unless I manually push the normal/open tab on the plastic valve on top of the canister in the engine compartment. When on the open side they open and when on the normal side they close. All the hoses appear to be connected and in good shape. Any information you can give me would be of great help. Thank you. TGA

Try going here and checking the hose routing.

There should not be any vacuum at the top of the underhood switch until you pull the dash switch out. This is because there is a spring inside the relay switch that needs vacuum in order to over come the spring pressure to move the plunger inside making the the path between the "Yellow" hose and the "Red" hose thus allowing the doors to open.

Sounds like vacuum is not getting from the dash switch to the relay switch for some reason or maybe a hose is loose to the dash switch....do you here any sucking like a vacuum leak?
