The secondaries have no effect on idle, correct? So if I hold my hand over the secs the idle should not change, correct? mine does, so this might mean the secs are open a little at idle correct? I never checked the sec stop before I put the carb on. I cant get the carb to idle below 800rpm with idle stop scew turned all out

If your carb is like mine, a Holley, it has a small stop screw for the secs. Try closing them a little? Hard to reach tho, I used a tini flat screwdriver.
