my tach was working fine last fall but when i started it up this spring, it only went as far as 1200 rpm. Could this be a problem with my coil. Its a Gm HEI distributor and before i buy a new coil, i was hoping to see if anyone may have had the same problem

try replacing the wire to the distributer. since the car is running fine I doubt its the coil. also try giving it the "technical tap" a few times.

Thanks Chris. The reason i think its the coil is because if i remove the coil cap and put an ometer to the sending wire and rev the engine, the meter does not move much either. When you say Technical tap, are you talking about like a stuck starter

Frank if you put an ohm meter on the tach side you fried the shunt in your meter. You need to hook up a tach/dwell meter to test.
