I have a 69 SS 396 that I replaced the timing gears with a double roller chain, had larger 2.19/1.88 valves put in the heads. The problem is when I start the car it barely starts and runs like crap. I move the distributer back and forth and the best I can get it to run is at 16 deg. BTDC. When I put the distributer back in initially I set the #1 to TDC and pointed the rotor to that wire on the cap. I verified the wires and they are all separated and in the correct order, the carb has not been touched from before I tore it down.

Something else interesting is the #1 and #6 plugs seem to be fouled. I am running a Comp Cams XE 274 cam and Hydrolic lifters. I adjusted the lifters so using the EO/IC method and they seem to be ok.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am at a loss here. I think I have done just about everything I know to do but for some reason this thing is not working. Any help will be gladly appreciated.

Steve

Well I think it's fixed. A friend came over and it appeared I had a few valves adjusted a little too tight. We adjusted them and set the timing and it appears to be running alot better. I can take it out yet because I need to finish a few things.

Thanks for reading my post. I hope if anyone else has this particular problem this will help in some way.

Thanks,

Steve
