Anyone having oil usage problems with this motor? Also are your rollers noisy at idle?

I have the ZZ502 crate engine in my 67 camaro SS, I have no Oil usage problems to report or noisy rollers to report.
On initial engine break-in it used about a half quart during the first 500 miles. but none since, also I installed the comp. cams roller rockers....

Kenny thanks for the reply. My 502 has about 3500 miles and it still is using oil at the rate of 1 qt. every 400 to 600 miles. Checked with Pace on this and they said it was normal on both subjects as all 502's were assembled with low tension oil rings to free up more HP.Engine runs extra strong with no smoke or plug problems. Thanks again.

jhow66,

I can't believe that the reply you got from the dealer is correct. No engine should blow by that much oil. I suggest you check with other dealers or GM.

Pace is blowing smoke your way - ALL current high-volume production engines use low-tension rings for reduced internal friction, and they have zilch blow-by for emissions compliance. No way is 400-600 miles to a quart considered normal.

Thanks again for your replys. Talked to a couple of guys on team chevelle that are having the same problems. One of them pulled his motor to have it bored--they told him the problem was out of round bores. Shame to spend $5000+ for a new motor and to do this.I will have to say that I love the way it peels your eyeballs back when you get a little heavy footed.(71PU-3.07 Posi)
