Hey I does any one know why my electric fans might not be working any more. There are two fans and one fan never came on at all and the other fan. Usually would come on when the car got hot. But now neither fan will come on at all. I tested the wires with a test light and the wires tested good. When I put the light in in one of the wires the fan that never would come on came on but the other wouldn`t do anything.

How long is the extension cord? sorry I'm being silly!! Tell us what you have, make, model, year etc... Makes a big difference if computer controled or just wired to a thermo switch or straight to the key!!

oh sorry about that but it is a 1988 iroc-z camaro with 305 tuned port injection. All I know is the fan has a wire running to a relay with the wires from both fans running to it. If you need more information just say it and I will write more.

I can help answer part of your question; the fan that you say never comes on, only comes on when the A/C is on (I also have a 88 IROC w/ AC). As for the other fan, get some wire / leads and unplug the suspected bad fan an apply 12VDC (from the battery) (and ground too) and see if the thing spins. I also had a bad fan some time ago and this is what I did to trouble shoot the fan motor.

Hey today I took the wire from the other fan and hooked it up to the fan that didn`t work and it came on so I know the fan does work but it won`t come on with the wire that is for that fan. I might just try to wire both fans to a toggle switch inside my car so I can turn them on when I want to. If anybody knows anything else I could do I would like to know.
Thanks

88 IROC, I was out chasing a starting problem on my 88 IROC and there is fuse-able link about 6 to 8 inches from the positive terminal cable on my 88. I un-plugged it to re-out it and then when I tried to start the car the fan was now running (the fan that usually runs with the A/C only). Go figure.
P.S. My car STILL won’t start!!!!

The fans are on a thermostat. On my 87 the fan wouldn't come on until the guage read about 210. Since the fan works by jumpering it and with the A/C on I would check the thermostat circuit.

I have a 92 RS and the fans don't come on until about 240*. Of course you can always get a relay switch for $30 and turn them on yourself whenever you want

Guys I have almost a similar problem with a camaro 95 V6 3.4L.
I have one Fan only and it doesn't work until you turn the A/C on.
After trouble shooting I found the following:
1- there is nothing wrong with the fan because it works when I turn the A/c on.
2- there nothing wrong with the relay because as I said the fan comes on when I turn the A/C and I even changed the relay with a different on but still nothing.
3- I replaced the ECT (coolant temperature) sensor, even though the old one was ok.
4- I checked the temperature gage and it works even it is irrelevant.
5- the wire from the PCM to the ECT sensor is ok because I can measure +5 on the it when I disconnect it from the ECT sensor
6- the wire from the PCM to the fan is ok because the fan turns on when the A/C is on and even if I disconnect the PCM wire from the ECT the fan will come on, but once I connect it back the fan will turn off.

I ran out of ideas and I am about to the dealer, which I heat to do so.

Please advise.

Thanks
