I'm fighting a constant rich condition in my holley 750. I've tried adjustion the air-fuel mixture but it doesn't help. Someone told me it might be a bad power valve, is that something that will keep it running rich?

Thanks

Idle mixture screws only affect air/fuel ratio at idle, primary jets affect it under all other conditions. If the power valve is shot, it will cause rich running in normal driving, but not at idle (assuming normal idle rpm and stable vacuum reading).

It's running rich at idle and while I'm driving, I can smell it. The carb also is not running smooth in drive put perfect at idle any ideas what I should try?

Is this a new carb? Are the floats adjusted properly? Do you know what fuel pressure your pump produces? Over 8 will force gas past the needle seats.

Power valves die regularly on Holleys. I recommend replacing it, then try it. Holley made it easy to replace because it will fail. It will affect idle as well since it will feed fuel any time it is open, as it will be when it fails. Ray

The carb is not new I've been running it for a while. It only started acting up the last few weeks. I did backfire thru the carb thats why I'm gussing powervalve. My fuel pressure is right at 7 psi. Like I said at idle it sounds good and when given gas at idle it is smooth. In gear however its not smooth at all and it sounds like its missing alittle bit but I've checked the timing and its good.
