Remote mirror install help

I have a 68 remote mirror with the two drain holes. I am trying to install it and having problems. I have the mirror and the S shaped piece that bolts to the mirror and is hooked in the hole in the door. I also have the gasket and another flat bracket that can be bolted to the door. My problem is that when I bolt it to the door using the hook with the gasket in place, the other end of the mirror raises up and will not sit flush on the door. If I slacken it to sit flush the mirror itself is to slack on the door. Am I missing something here. I serched the part number here and found some threads that stated that it is a 68 mirror as well as the member I bought it from a few years ago. I havent been able to figure this out. I searched the board for some install threads but came up empty. Part number on the base is 15-2078

Is the thick part of the gasket on the lower edge like on my 2nd Gen?

Re: Remote mirror install help

The "Cleat" that the mirror sits on and the set screw gets tightened to may need to be straightened to get the mirror to sit flush. The cleat bolts to the door on top of the gasket.

Post a picture of the cleat and the mirror base so we can see you have a complete set and for what year it really is.
