Hood popping open during driving

I am having an issue with my 69 camaro hood popping open during driving. It doesn't come flying open, just pops up and I'm guessing catches the latch. I couldn't find any threads about this. Do I just need to lower the hood adjusters? It doesn't do it every time I have the car out, but appears to do it under hard acceleration. Any ideas?

Re: Hood popping open during driving

If the hood sits flush where it is supposed to, then you need to adjust the striker pin on center of the the hood. It is likely the latch is not closing all the way on the striker. 1st with hood closed, look up from underneath with a strong light. Is the head of the pin fully underneath latch? if not, you can adjust pin downwards with a large screwdriver counter clockwise. Also if latch is not lubed, this might cause latch to not fully seat the pin. Luck!

X2 on what Kevin said and something that I used to do in the past was to run a cable through the latch and lock it down for both added security and to keep the hood from flying open incase of latch failure.

Re: Hood popping open during driving

I had the same problem on my 69... To fix it;
I loosened the 4 bolts holding the metal plate(with the striker pin) to the hood, there is some play in it, and moved it slightly then tightened it down again.
Then I went for a drive over a bumpy road to test it.... It took a few tries but eventually it did fix the problem.
