96 Camaro has backwards wiper arm?

I have to change the wipers on my 96 camaro and having a bit of a problem with it. It seems that the hook of the arm is backwards because is bends upwards when in other cars I have seen, it's bent down. This causes a problem because if I want to install new wipers, I either have to install the replacement backwards, or I have to remove the clip from the center of the replacement , and install it backwards, then put it on the car. Either way, the blades do not sit properly on the windshield, as if there isn't enough force pushing down on the center of the blade to make it hug the windshield properly. Can anyone offer some suggestions to help me fix this?
