2001 Throttle Body

At random times when I start my car, it takes 10-12 turns before it turns over. Once it does, I have reduced power, spitting and choking. Eventually I'm able to get it started and it runs just fine. Here's what the dealer has done so far based on inspection and computer analysis:

Replaced the catalytic converter
Flashed the computer (it reported a problem with the throttle body)
Replaced the computer
Replaced the throttle body

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas on what to do next?

Re: 2001 Throttle Body

It may be a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Engine is cranking for a long time to build up oil pressure and in so doing, closing the parallel power path for the fuel pump.

You should hear a buzz back at the rear of the car for 2 seconds when turning the ignition key to the IGN position. After this event, the fuel pump turns off. Then when START is selected, the relay closes and fuel pump turns back on to pump.

You might troubleshoot power to the fuel pump to make sure the relay is doing its job. Voltage at the pump connector at the tank should be within 1/2 volt of battery voltage. If voltage is low, I'd change the relay after checking the harness for any broken strands, corrosion, and loose connections.

But yes, it would be good to know the make & model. Shoot, I could be out in left field.

I have a 2001 Camaro Convertible with a stock V6 engine (it's a GIRL Camaro which is OK because I'm a girl).

Re: 2001 Throttle Body

when who ever did the work, check the fuel pump pressure?that would be the 1st place to look. i cant rember off hand what the spec is,im going to guess it should be around 50psi.also when was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?icant figure out why they would have replaced the t body.do you have a check engine light on when driving?if they replaced the convertor you should have had a low catalist effecince code and light coming on.sounds like someone was throwing parts at it.let me know.

Re: 2001 Throttle Body

Check it for a plugged up injector also, common problem and it only takes one on a V6 to make it run like crap.
