Unhappy 89 camero, 2.8 code 54 Please

I have a check engine light that stays on when I start the engine but goes off if I restart the engine. Scan tool showed a 54 code but the fuel pump relay and fuel pump appear to be working fine as it runs great. Does this model have idle air control valve? Please provide summary of trobleshooting or R/R the part. Please advise.

What size engine do you have? The trouble codes are different depending on type of engine. A code 54 for a 3.1L is the Fuel pump circuit (low voltage) and on a 2.8 L or 5.0L a code 54 is M/C Solenoid voltage high to ECM. 5.0 and 5.7L VIN F would also be the fuel pump circuit.
Try disconnecting the battery for 20-30 seconds to clear the computer of any trouble codes. Then start the car and see if the check engine light comes on again.

The check engine light problem is in a 2.8 engine. How do I troubleshoot the m/c solenoid?

MC solonid is at the two wire connector top of carb. (usually) key on engine off
should be a clicking noise this area. one wire at battery voltage the other wire is pulsing ground from the ECM . solonid should show low ohm contunity.
