Angry Need Help w/"80" Camaro Shifter Problem!!!

I have a 1980 Camaro with the factory auto shifter. My problem is the shifter keeps jamming. I've tried 3 times to fix this problem and used GM shift cables each time. The new cable will work for a week or mabey two and then jam , preventing the shifter from being moved out of park , until the cable is disconnected. The last time I tried to correct this problem , I took the car to AAMCO , figureing it might be tranney induced. NO DICE. One week later I'm in the driveway....It seems the part of the cable that slides out , when moveing the shifter , bends , preventing it from slideing back in , resulting in Park Only. Anyone w/insight to this problem and how to correct it ?? Thanks Robert

disconnect cable and move shift lever on side of trans by hand. you should feel
all detents about the same- with park being slightly harder. if ok check angularity betwen cable holding bracket and trans shift lever, this must be a
STRAIGHT push/ pull alignment!
