What is that squeak

I have a new squeak in my steering column, has this happenned to anyone else. I tried a small amount of lubricant, it still squeaks when I turn the wheel. It sounds like metal to metal, any suggestions will be appreciated. I have a '68 RS/SS Convertible without tilt wheel. I changed the nsteering wheel a few weeks ago, but this noise just started.

Re: What is that squeak

Did you install an aftermarket steering wheel such as a Grant steering wheel with the adapter kit with a new cover/ collar? The covers sometimes rub on the steering column creating that grinding sound. Try shimming it out with a flat washer and see if that helps. There should be a big enough gap between the bottom of the cover and the top of the column. I have a feeling that is your problem.
