Engine won't stay running

'86 Z28 350
comp cam 272 HE Cam
Edelbrock 650cm carb
edlebrock rpm air gap manifold
The distributor and fuel pump are from the original 305 TPI engine that I did the sawp with. Its been running fine for the past few months, just recently has it been acting up. Ive cleaned the carb, messed with choke settings (electric) messed with air to fuel ratios...etc. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. Problem is as follows:

starts and runs from anywhere from 15 - 60 seconds and then dies...

runs perfectly healthy when running.

Are you saying you're using the original in-tank electric pump with your carb setup?

Re: Engine won't stay running

did you use a bypass type regulator with a return line?
Was it originally TPI (low pressure throttle body injection) or TPI (Tuned Port Injection, with the snaky intake tubes and air intake in front)

The TPI system uses a high pressure pump that I don't think could be adapted to a carb. The pump used with a TBI can be used with a carb, as long as a bypass regulator and return line are used and pressure is set no higher than 6 psi.

Also, does your distributor have conventional mechanical and vacaum advance? My understanding has been that TPI engines used a computer controlled advance system with no advance mechanism at all in the distributor.
