Glowing Orange

So I rebuilt and brought back to life a 94 Z28. LT1. When I start it up and run it for a while the cat. converter heats up and gets really hot. Is the timing off yet? Is it running rich or lean? Or is the converter plugged up from sitting for eight months? Someone help. Ive sunk 4500 into it and still cant drive it.

Re: Glowing Orange

Timing off?? - check with a light

Running lean would make it hotter. Cats always get hot anyway.

If it was me, I'd take the cat off and remove the guts, assuming you could still pass emissions (if required in your state).

Or, just buy a new cat. What's a few more bucks, if you've already spent $4,500?

Re: Glowing Orange

is it setting any codes? Check engine light on?

Is the AIR (air pump) installed and functional?

The AIR and all it's valving and plumbing is vital on these engines.

Re: Glowing Orange

JimM, not to hijack this thread, but your sig says you got a '68 with a "#'s matching 383". I didn't know they made a 383 in '68!

heheh

Re: Glowing Orange

He stroked his 327 that is original to the car.... so it is a numbers matching car but now a 383... clear as mud?

(far superior to the Pontiac Phoenix)

The Internet. It doesn't make you stupid. It just makes your stupidity more accessible to others.
