Belt squeel, HELP!!!

Hey to all!!! New member here. I recently bought a B4C (Police duty) 02 Camaro. Love the car and been a Camaro Z owner since 1987. I have a worsening belt squeel, have replace tensioner and the belt itself. What else should I look to do? Appreciate any help.

Re: Belt squeel, HELP!!!

either the alignment is off on the pulleys
or the grooves in the pulleys are glazed.
take some fine sandpaper and roughen up the surfaces the belt ride on.

Re: Belt squeel, HELP!!!

thks for the comment
btw its easy to check alignment if you have a straightedge ruler.
90% of the time its the altenator that isnt aligned with the water pump and crank pulleys.

Re: Belt squeel, HELP!!!

You also may have an old/defective battery also. You crank the engine up, battery works really hard to generate the energy for starter, meaning uses more of its energy, engine starts, let go of the key from START position.

Now, alternator comes up to speed to replenish what energy was used, battery, in general, accept a charge on their own terms, meaning rather an initial charge of 40-50 amps, then leveling off to less than 15 amps, battery is requiring more recharge current placing more load onto alternator via the belt, thus belt slips due to demand of alternator.
