'87 IROC wheels

I'm the 2nd owner of an '87 IROC with only 64k miles on it. The car was garage-kept and very well preserved. I know the IROCs had different offset front/rear wheels, but on this one small white stickers remain on the left-side wheel outer rims that appear to be factory--just like you see on new cars today. Was there any significance to these stickers, and if so, would this add any value to the car? The thing is unbelievabably showroom stock and has some very rare options. Can anyone tell me what these stickers were for--if anything?

Re: '87 IROC wheels

Perhaps the tires were directional and the stickers indicated the left side. Just a guess. I had a brand new 89 IROC and it didn't have any stickers on the wheels.

The sticker may indicate a light or heavy spot on the rim which would aid balancing.

Check my web page for First Gen Camaro suspension info:

Re: '87 IROC wheels

87 IROC,

I had two 3rd gen Camaro's which were purchased in 1991 & 1994. The first car was a 1984 5.0 H.O. Z28. The 2nd was a 1988 5.7L IROC-Z. I think even my 1984 Z28 with the 15" wheels had the small white stickers. The stickers I believe were used to mark the high spot and low spot on the wheel in correlation to the tires. Sometimes they were used to make the position of the valve stem when the tires were balanced at the factory.

I do not believe this would add any value to the car but it is nice to have on a bone stock all original car. I hope this info helps.

P.S. I sold tires back in the day. My memory is a bit rusty but that's how I know this info. That was a nice guess by David and it turns out he is correct.

Re: '87 IROC wheels

Also, on many third gen wheels they are stamped "front" or "rear" in the casting. My 16" IROC wheels have them. It saves the time of measuring and determining which one belongs where.
