LT1 Swap Computer Issue

Have a 67 RS/SS Convertible with a 94 LT1 donor engine/computer. Following are the known mods/specs (I'm sure some are irrelevant for this question but just in case). The computer is not communication with any programming tool. On the OBDII Harness (Painless Harness) there are the 12volt and two 5volt reference lines present.

Symptoms: Idle all over the board - mostly 2500 rpm but drops down to 800rpm occasionally, headers are running extremely hot (rockers have just been adjusted), occasionally severe hesitation.

I am trying to figure out what the correct steps to troubleshoot this system would be. Also, assuming the computer is bad, what system (cost effective as I have blown my wad on the rest of the car!) would you recommend?

Re: LT1 Swap Computer Issue

Stomps, I am not a computer gearhead but have some lt1 experience from my 95 ss impala. Here are some things to look at-

You have an OBD 1 car (pre 1996) and an OBD 2 harness-cold be the whole problem.

Also all of the mods you have on that engine will definately require a reprogram of the computer. Bryan Herter of PCMS for less does a lot of work for guys on the impala ss forum and can help you out at a reasonable price. Also tons of info on the forum about modded lt1s.

Good Luck

Re: LT1 Swap Computer Issue

Funny you should recommend Bryan, as I called him an he did, in fact, program my computer. Everything is OK now except that I am running about 1100RPM at idle and hesitating and some backfiring when decelerating and then giving a little gas. Laso, I am burning about twice as much fuel as I should be and my Air/Fuel guage is still all over the board. I just cleaned my sensor in my blower tube but it did not make a change. I have been looking for a vacuum leak but am coming up short...
