Re: Engine Vibration

I always like to start at the front of an engine and work my way back; so the first thing I'll throw-out on the floor is torsional damper i/e harmonic balancer. could be loose on the crank, or the rubber membrane is starting to separate from between the halves.
how noticeable is the vibration ?

Re: Engine Vibration

Very noticable but only starts at 3500.
I am thinking the same as you but I was hoping for something simple

Re: Engine Vibration

the old-type balancers that were spoked inside, you could pretty much look at them and tell. but if you've got the newer type like comes on the ZZ engine, unless you can see the rubber-ring poking out or something, it's almost a process of elimination-by-replacement,, and I HATE that process.....

Re: Engine Vibration

I should have mentioned this problem is on a different engine not the one in my Z.
This is a 78-79 350 in my 74 Vet.
I haven't replaced one of these in a very long time.
Can you please tell me what is involved or point me in the right direction.

Re: Engine Vibration

ouch.. Corvette. nothing is easy on a 'Vette, especially in the engine compartment. I've not done this job either, but do have a buddy on a Corvette forum who has. I can hook you up with him if you'd like, or wait and see what others have to offer here.

Re: Engine Vibration

What kind af transmission are you running. I had the same problem at it was my centerforce clutch. the springs open at around 3k. I changed the clutch and no more vibration!

Re: Engine Vibration

Yeah, hopefully it's clutch or flexplate related. Easy fix.

Re: Engine Vibration

Was the engine crank, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, pistons crank, rods all balanced?
Many ppl think just because a engine is going to be for street use, one doesnt have to bother....it makes a huge diff to comfort and the long lasting of the engine.
Worth every penny every time

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative
