I was wondering if the bottom arms are needed?..i would like to put in adjustable coil overs and wasnt sure if the bottom arms do much besides look different.
thanks
If you are doing the QA1 coil over conversion I'd say it would be a damn good idea. The factory lower control arms were never designed to support the entire weight on 2 tiny shock bolts. At least the GW lowers are beefed up in that area and can hold the load.
most of the stress is on the upper control arm. the tubular lower control arm really does nothing advantageous. whereas with the tubular upper you gain more caster (less bump steer)
i wouldnt waste your money on the lower. other will probably agree with me.
We sell and install the QA1 and the Global West, among other brands of arms. I have been running those coil over conversions in my street drag car since the late nineties, and I wheelie that car almost every launch. With that said, it sure would not hurt anything to have a beefed up arm, but as mentioned there is no geometry advantage.
something like this is a much cheaper alternative in my opinion, unless you think you'll be changing your ride height frequently. Used in conjunction with short circle track springs, from which there is a huge selection, can use stock lower arm, and shock of your choice.
The second adjuster listed is too small to fit a shock inside it safely.
