69 Camaro VINs

Never seen a 69 Camaro with a 0 for the 6th digit, Would have thought i would have since here it states the last 53K cars received one. I know the 69 Shelbys did this as i have seen one retagged by the factory
below is a scan from a 1999 CHP Mag

Hey stranger! or should I say trouble maker. lol... Good to see you're still around. You know if it is in print it has to be true, everything in print has been researched and verified and besides I read that somewhere and it was in print so it's true!!! lol...

Re: 69 Camaro VINs

Jeez, what a load of crap. You would think CHP magazine writers would do some actual research before publishing their rag, but no, I guess it's easier just to make $h!+ up!

1. His VIN isn't 113313. It's 9N681892 (113313 is the BODY NUMBER)
2. This body number was assigned the 1st week of August, 1969, not 1968
3. Production didn't carry into February, 1970. The last 69 Camaro was built in November, 1969
4. The VIN's of the last 53,526 cars built are just like all the others. They have a 9 for the 6th character, not a 0.
5. No such thing as a 327 SS engine
6. The 327 was replaced by the 307 in January, 1969, not February 14, 1970
7. His car wasn't necessarily a 350. It could also have been a 307
8. As in number 6 above, when they DISCONTINUED the 327, they phased in the 307, not the 350.

Re: 69 Camaro VINs

Oh, I forgot, it could also have been a 6 cylinder car since he didn't include the first part of the VIN.

I realize this was 1999, but most of the info I posted above was already known by then.

Jeff, did you post this just to spin me up??!!

And of course, just like magazines...

Re: 69 Camaro VINs

I remember that letter and response well.

I sent CHP a letter explaining all the errors. Hard to believe they could cram so much misinformation in such a tiny space.

Car mags are the main reason guys believe there is a 1969 "factory equipped" cross ram Z/28 with 4 wheel disc brake option.
