Nice find
09A car with a cowl hood, also mentioned in letter.
I guess it must have been added by the dealer (?)

Correct, I took detailed pics for the complete cowl induction and every piece
is in place, even the gas pedal solenoid near the firewall. I also found the 1969
Original license plate and original trailer hitch which is still mounted.

Nice. btw, the plate is for the trailer that he towed. A 69 MI car plate has 2 letters and 4 numbers.

Why must it have been added by the dealer on a 09A 1969 car, did they discontinue the ducted hood ZL2?

Also, the POP is dated 9/1/69, more than 2 weeks prior to delivery. Is that normal or a misprint?

Some where in the Hotrod story it says the contest winner was driving a 1970 Monte Carlo, but he won the car prior to June 27, 1969. Misplaced memory or was the Monte Carlo released early?

1969 Z/28 Sept was mandatory ZL2, D80 and Tach package. A 1969 Camaro SS you had to Special Order the ducted hood or ZL2 see my trim tag has D80. Also have deluxe safety belts.

Sorry, I still don't understand why this hood must be dealer added, or even special order. I thought ZL2 was a regular production order that was available on the SS model in September of 1969, the 13 month of 1969 model production. Am I missing something?

Re: 1969 Camaro Convertible RS SS

ZL2 Hood was available as an option but you had to order it for a 1969 Camaro, Z/28 came with a Flat hood, You need to Check or Select this option... for it to be installed on your 1969 Camaro.

As you see today, every 1967 -1969 has a cowl induction hood.

It is very uncommon to have a ZL2 on a 1969 SS.

So L48 HE coded on Block and POP.
Raffle documents state 3 speed floor mounted, which was the standard offering with SS. Its a shame he didn't order the M38 TH350 3 speed automatic for $25 more and then it would have kept the 12 bolt. Winner must have been extra thrifty or just unaware how much better the TH350 transmission was.
This is probably the only power glide with ducted hood non Z11 Camaro ever produced at the factory.

Re: 1969 Camaro Convertible RS SS

Probably a little of both, thrifty and the TH350 was relatively new and untested at this point ?

So this part of the HR article is untrue ? With the HE engine code, the car left the factory with a Powerglide, correct ?

"Mark is researching how the Camaro was equipped new. Being so late in 1969, Mark doesnít believe the owner could have ordered the Camaro. He believes the Camaro was already built, and came with a four-speed Muncie manual transmission and an SS hood. But the owner set up the car with a Powerglide, through the dealer, for his wife. More curious is the cowl induction hood, which mates to the 302 air cleaner, ala the Z/28 of the time."

Re: 1969 Camaro Convertible RS SS

There's some BS in the article.
He couldn't be driving a Monte Carlo - it was introduced Sept 69 and that's when he got the Camaro.
The letter is clear that he could add options. So he ordered it through the dealer, presumably choosing the color too.

The ZL2 was not a special order. It was a regular option on a SS or a Z. My SS has it. A swag from limited data is about 1/3 of the ZL2s went on SS. Excluding pacers....

Re: 1969 Camaro Convertible RS SS

The previous owner is a son of a friend of mine, so I had a chance to see the car in person in November of 2017. It really is an astounding find. I knew he was thinking of not touching a thing on it, and I thought he would keep it. He did have a lot of other projects going on, perhaps there was just not enough time, space and money for this one. It is good to see that this one has found another good home. I hope to hear a lot more about this one as time goes on!
