They actually make a system similar to what Mercedes uses.. You carry a transmitter/card in your wallet and when you get within a few feet it activates the switch and energizes the push to start button...
A 15-20A rated button will be plenty if you're wiring it into the purple ignition wire. Otherwise, you can get some much snazzier buttons and use a relay with the purple wire on the relay contacts like others suggested.
I've got one of these in a box somewhere that I was going to use as an interlock on my start circuit. I've just got a jumper where the old neutral safety switch used to plug in and was going to put it there.
The one from Summit as Steiner suggested works fine.
I had two of them wired in my previous car, one in a bracket on the intake for bumping the engine over during valve adjustment, and one installed in the radio knob hole in case the ign switch ever failed to 'start'.
