69 camaro coupe rear axel leaf spring perch

Would like to know if the rear axel originaly had mono leaf and the rear axel is converted to multi 5 leaf would the spring perch need to be changed because of the original mono perch being shorter or would the bigger space not make a diffrence? thanks Steve

Re: 69 camaro coupe rear axel leaf spring perch

Steve,

I wouldn't worry about it BUT I would use "U"-bolts like I said earlier!!

My car has been that way since about 1970 or so fine!!

Definately put the little-bitty "T"-bolts in a can up on the shelf!!!!!!!!

Re: 69 camaro coupe rear axel leaf spring perch

As david Pozzi noted on one of your other threads, a monoleaf perch doesn't have the center hole used to properly locate the through bolt in the center of most multi-leaf springs, so you should check to see if a plate has been added or if the springs have a flat top through bolt.

Four U-bolts is fine, better than OE if they are good quality. GM used four T-bolts on low performance cars, and one U-bolt/two T-bolts on high performance 1st gens.

Re: 69 camaro coupe rear axel leaf spring perch

what is this plate, is it the one used in the detroit speed mono to multi leaf conversion kit? I took my springs off the axel yesterday, the 5 leaf springs do have a flat top through bolt with a nut on the bottom and there was no plate just the mounting pads were used on my car. Thanks for your time and help Steve
