Upper Ball joint ???'s

I'm replacing my upper ball joints on a 69 using cheapo replacements from Rick's. I've already replaced all the other parts in their kit or else I would send it back. I don't have any directions for the Upper ball joints. After many searches here and going to David Pozzi's site, it looks like they go in from the top of the control arm. It also appears that the boot and sleeve for the boot go on the ball joint and slide down from the top. Is this correct? It doesn't seem that the boot and sleeve will go on adequately to slide the whole thing thru the top. I tried installing it with the boot and sleeve on the bottom of the control arm, but it seems like the ball joint doesn't rest evenly on the control arm so it "torqued" or bent as I tightened the bolts. Help!
Another question: since I have no instructions, I don't know how much to torque the bolts. Some places say 20-25lbs (one of my bolts broke at 23lbs) another place said 15lbs.

I'm about ready to go buy Moog's and throw these away.

Thanks in advance,
John

Re: Upper Ball joint ???'s

If you want to improve your steering geometry buy some Howe extended upper ball joints.

Bob,
How do the extended ball joints improve suspension geometry?
Where do you get them?

Thanks,
John

Helps in several areas. Optimizes Camber curve, increases static negative camber slightly.

Re: Upper Ball joint ???'s

Is there any updated information on where to get the Howe extended upper ball joints? The link above appears to be dead. Thanks!

Re: Upper Ball joint ???'s

I found it. So these are $80 each? More than I was expecting.

Re: Upper Ball joint ???'s

The upper ball joints I've used go in from the top and the boot and retainer go on the bottom. If you have no retainer (secured by the bolts/rivets) you will need to tap the boot on from the bottom with a socket or pipe. All of the lowers I've seen are like that

Re: Upper Ball joint ???'s

I revived an old thread, I guess I should have started a new one. Has anyone used these extended upper ball joints? Are they $80 each? I'm not sure it they are $80 each or $80 for 2 upper ball joints. Thanks.

Re: Upper Ball joint ???'s

I put the Proforged on my car with the Guldstrand mod. I believe Proforge now offers an even taller ball joint. https://www.camaros.net/forums/showth...ll+ball+joints

Re: Upper Ball joint ???'s

These are the ball joints I use on my Camaro along with Global West tubular control arms with Del-A-Lum bushings. They are $50 dollars each. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/po...t/model/camaro Here is a link to the installation instructions for Moog upper ball joints with pictures. http://www.moogproblemsolver.com/moo...s/AXCF3616.pdf

Re: Upper Ball joint ???'s

$50 each is better. I wish I had not have purchased the stock-type Moog ball joint now, but I didn't find out about this until after I placed the order.

Thanks for the help everyone!
