67 Steering column

Hi All,

Hope im in the right area, i pulled out my steering column not too long ago during the resto, and three small springs fell out. What do these do? are they important? do i need to get it rebuilt or should it be ok to drive still?

Any help is good help, thanks in advance.

Dan.

Dan- Here is a link to part of the assembly diagram of the column. See if it helps you find out what springs that fell out and see if you can figure out where they go.

Re: 67 Steering column

You didn't mention if the springs were coil springs or leaf type springs.

If they are coil springs I believe they are the ones between the housing and the lock plate. The go around the three screws. A lot of people make the mistake in removing the three screws before they remove the housing from the column. You loosen the three screws and then rotate the whole assembly (sort of a cam lock) and the whole thing comes out of the steering column.
