R+R 69 camaro PS box and rag joint from CPP

I got a new steering box and wrag joint from classic performance products. I never done one of these before but was told not hard. Well I am having trouble getting the wrag joint installed on the steering box. I gave a few taps with a rubber mallet was able to get that on but when I try to bolt the joint on the screw hits some teeth on the shaft and messes up the threads on the mounting bolt. I called CPP they told me to grind down the teeth? Has anyone else done this or gone through this? I ordered part cp500004 for the box and RJC-730R-DROP for the wrag joint.

There is a groove in the steering box shaft that should allow the bolt to pass through. Do you have that lined up?

Yes I do. the threads of the bolt hit the teeth on both sides of that grove. They don't hit that hard I can still turn the bolt with a 3/8 socket but the threads on the bolt are getting beat up bad. CPP told me to grind down a few teeth on each side of the grove a little to get the bolt in. I just thought for a direct bolt in replacement I shouldn't have to go through this step.
