That spring is listed for a 69 z28. SB car not BB.

Re: 69 SS 396 COUPE front spring issues

the front tire needs to be a 215-60-15(225-60-15)..what is the offset(backspace) on the rim??..15x6,7,8,??..4.5,4.3/4??..THE 215-70-15 is a skinny tire..is the top of the tire hitting the inner fender well??

Re: 69 SS 396 COUPE front spring issues

638 is a BB spring, 6308 is the Z spring.

Troy, define "rubs bad"? 215/70s are pretty skinny tires by todays standards. Does it rub when turning or rub the wheel well? mis-labeled springs is common. I ordered 6308 springs from Amazon and got 6320s, but since I have verts I need the 6320s

You have to mic the wire dia and free height to be sure of what you have. I have a set of new but old TRW springs I got from Jerry that mic out as 638s. he put them on a Z and it raised the front end too high.

Re: 69 SS 396 COUPE front spring issues

My 638s had "638" stamped into the top coil. They were 1980s vintage, so I don't know if newer ones would be stamped. The 5370s I just put in were not stamped.

As Bill noted, the backspace is really important, particularly on a 69. I have 215/60 15 on my 69, with 4.75 inch BS, and no rubbing, even when the car had 638s with a coil cut off (very low).

Do you have any pics you can post, and give a little more info on where it rubs? I assume it is hitting the inner fender bolt heads at the top of the wheelwell.
