Exclamation Column sector rack shape

Is this what shape the rack gear is supposed to be? I can't find pictures detailed enough to show me what it's supposed to look like.
If this one is bent.... I FIGURED OUT MY PROBLEM!!!
Please tell me it's bent!

Re: Column sector rack shape

Glad you finally found why your ignition key was sticking in start position. Any idea as to what caused the bend in the rack? The plastic sector certainly couldn't have had enough strength to bend the die casting.

It is really hard to diagnose a problem like you experienced.

Glad that it is fixed.

Re: Column sector rack shape

Thanks Jim.... couldn't have done it without you!
But in all the papers I've got and all three manuals, I don't have that picture... do I?

A buddy and I were mulling that very subject about how it could have gotten bent earlier.... that's a very good question which he brought up as well.
I debated whether it should actually be that way when I watched the gears roll across each other. The bend was perfectly shaped to the sector.
Live and learn!
