Any idea what steering box this is?

1969 Camaro. Don't know if this is original or not.

Re: Any idea what steering box this is?

How many mounting tabs to the subframe does it have? 3 or 4? Is there a mounting tab\hole sticking up above the frame rail that's not used? If there is, that is how the original boxes mounted.
The number 5686555 is just a case casting, and was used in many models.

I'll check on the number of holes. But yes, there is one unused hole above the frame.

Re: Any idea what steering box this is?

The 555 casting number is consistent with an early Camaro and Charlie is correct on the date code on the top cover. Many 69 PS boxes are variable ratio, would be around 2.5 turns lock to lock when in the car. The feel is low effort though, so not the best.

Re: Any idea what steering box this is?

I thought the more turns it took from lock to lock, the less "good handling" it had. More turning of the wheel to turn the tires. A guy that had to do 4.5 turns of the wheel to turn a corner would handle worse than a guy that only has to go 2.5.
