Unhappy alignment woes

well took the car to get aligned today according to GW specs, they came as close to the specs as possisible
left camber -0.4 caster 4.4 toe 0.12 deg
right camber -0.6 caster 4.5 toe 0.13 deg
my problem is the driver side has 3/4" of shims while the passenger side has none.
the car wasnt leaning until it was aligned, now the front driver side ground to fender lip is 26 1/8 and passenger side has 26 1/2...
any ideas?

Re: alignment woes

As for the shims I don't see any thing "really" wrong there. The car is in alignment. If the bushings and joints are new I wouldn't let that bother me much that there are none in one side. I'm not aware of anything that would change the ride height while doing the alignment. Is the 3/8 inch really that noticeable?

Re: alignment woes

with the factory control arms it had an even amout of shims on both sides, two on the front bolts and 3 on the rear, is the geometry on the GW arms that much different?

Re: alignment woes

This will make you feel a little better. I have the same arms and yes, bunch of shims on drivers side and very little on pass side. My car is level though...
Edit: My alignment specs are:
left camber 0.0 caster 5.0 toe 1/16"
right camber 0.0 caster 5.5 toe 1/32"

Re: alignment woes

Thanks guys, well at least I know it's just not mine alone. now to figure out why the sudden lean. everything was tightened with the car sitting on ramps,
on the plus side the ride is like night and day... next step poly rear leaf bushings and body bushings, then the frame connectors.

Re: alignment woes

Far shot but check your core support bushings. My pass side bracket that the bushing goes threw was rusted. When I installed GW solid bushings and tightened them down they punched through the bracket and the pass side dropped 1 inch.

Re: alignment woes

I've got stock arms and have more shims on one side than the other after doing the first alignment in like ten years after a bunch of suspension work. Is it possible that the adjustment for road crown they do has something to do with it? Car tracks like a slot car though.

Re: alignment woes

Greetings from Arizona
my 69 has about same amount of shims, except with 396 springs, dropped spindles, 350 motor, no a/c it sits about 23.5 inche to fender. its to low but she handles like a slot car.

INTERESTING FACT: When you tear apart you suspenion to rebuild it
always mark and tape your shims and put back where they came from. It helps front end mechanic have a starting point with alignment.......

I just did my 68 Chevelle with PST bushings, springs, SSBC disc brakes conversion, big sway bar. When My mechanic at work did the alignment for me, he added 1 shims and then set the toe. drives very well
thanks j
